EXCERPT  Roping the Ranger by Sarah M. Anderson
Helena was a large city by Montana standards, but this wasn’t match.com. By the time he had narrowed his search down, he really only had about twenty-five potential candidates. Which made it sound like he was interviewing them for a job and he wasn’t. Hell, he didn’t even know if he was going to do anything once he got done staring at photos of older women online. Nothing, probably. Just a weird…well, it wasn’t even a fantasy. Not a real one. Just a…thing. A quirk. Like he’d told Carlene earlier, just another wild Saturday night.
He was halfway down the list—and had tipped his hat, as the site called liking someone, a few times—when he saw her. At least, he thought it was her. The name said Carly Hughes, not Carlene. But that photo? It had to be Carlene—his Carlene, the waitress who’d taken care of him nearly every Saturday night for the last five and a half months. In the photo, her blonde hair wasn’t pulled back into the tight twist that she almost always wore at the restaurant. It was loose and hung in big waves almost to her shoulders. Instead of the professional button-up shirt, she wore a tight T-shirt—long sleeved, but cut low in the front. The shirt was turquoise and it made her blue eyes pop in a way that the dim interior lighting of the restaurant never could.
She was smiling at the camera. That was what convinced him it was the same woman. Because he’d been watching that smile for months now. He got that smile every time he asked how she was doing, if she’d had a good night, or if her team had won. Carlene was Carly Hughes. His fantasy just got a lot more specific. And, according to her profile, she was available. She was divorced—was Hughes her maiden name or her married name? It said she was an assistant manager at a restaurant, which was news to him. He’d thought she was a waitress, not one of the managerial staff. But that would explain why she was always dressed like a businesswoman instead of a server. Wait. She was an assistant manager, so why the hell did she always wait on his table? That didn’t make any sense. Unless… Tommy hadn’t put his picture on his profile—again, he didn’t really belong on the website, and he didn’t want to get called out for it. So he had no idea if she would know it was him or not. She knew his name—his first name, anyway.
He assumed that she was passingly familiar with his last name, as he paid with his credit card at least half the time. Did he want her to recognize him? There was no law that he had to keep going back to Peachtree’s, right? He clicked the hat-tip button. The site gave him an option also sending a message. He sighed and stared at her face in the picture again. Well, hell. If he was going to do this, he was going to be all in. He clicked in the message box and began to type.
Does this count as something different?

NetGalley REVIEW - Virtual Tour - Only a Viscount Will Do (To Marry a Rogue, #3) by Tamara Gill

Only a Viscount Will Do
To Marry a Rogue, #3
by Tamara Gill
Publication Date: May 22nd 2017
Publisher: Entangled: Select
Genres: Adult, Historical Romance

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . ONLY A VISCOUNT WILL DO (To Marry a Rogue, #3) . . . I fell in love. Alice was more than a lady. She had heart. She was adventurous, sassy, beautiful and don’t get on her bad side. Something that the Surrey Bandit did and in the process, he met his match. Lady Alice was not the typical lady of her time. She was so much more. She was a very active participant in her world, lady like or not. I found that at times she may have played a little too close to the flame. She may or may not have be ready to be burned but the heat that arose was something to see. Callum was not expecting to be found out let alone by the one woman that he could see more with.

I love reading and watching strong leading ladies take their place and own it. Alice was no exceptions. I had to admit that there were a few things that felt out of place, but for me in no way hindered the progress of the read. Tamara Gill puts her own spin on the historical romances that she set forth. There’s a touch of predictability but watching it all unfold was what makes the read enjoyable. If everything was precise why would we call it fictional reading. I loved this one. I loved Alice.

To Marry a Rogue series:
Only an Earl Will Do – To Marry a Rogue, #1
Only a Duke Will Do – To Marry a Rogue, #2
Only a Viscount Will Do – To Marry a Rogue, #3

BLURB
Lady Alice Worthingham never conforms to Society’s norms. Ever. She loves adventure, new experiences, and approaches life with a sassy attitude Society can take or leave. But even for her, robbery by a highwayman is a bit much.
Lord Arndel, Lady Alice’s neighbor, is playing a dangerous game—acting the proper viscount by day and the Surrey Bandit by night. And to brazenly steal from the woman who’s captured his attention is no mean feat, or the wisest of moves.

When Lady Alice learns the truth, the viscount finds that when a well-bred woman seeks revenge, she’ll make a gentleman thief pay for his crimes with everything…including his heart.

EXCERPT

“A shame that a woman like you will enter a marriage of convenience. Such delectable flesh should be loved a great deal and pleasurably so.” His hand clasped her shoulder and pushed her against the multitude of parcels tied to the back of the carriage. He leaned in closer than she’d ever allowed a man to do. “It’s been a long time since I’ve had a woman like you under me. Oh how I’d love to partake in mutual pleasure that would ruin you for anyone else.”
Alice swallowed, hating the fact that deep down, her body was reacting to his absurd, scandalous words. She shouldn’t allow him to say such things. She should knock him in the head, but at this moment she didn’t have anything to do the job with, so it was a moot point.
“How do you know me, sir?” she managed to ask, her breath stuck in her lungs, her nerves frayed by the thought of this man atop her, pleasuring her as his words promised.

NetGalley REVIEW - Virtual Tour - Scandal of the Season by Liana LeFey

Scandal of the Season
by Liana LeFey
Releasing May 30th 2017
Entangled Select
The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . SCANDAL OF THE SEASON . . . The love they had for each other was unmistakable. The approach to allowing that love to blossom was a bit trickier. Sorin and Eleanor had spent much time together years before. Once he left things changed. The form of connection was letters back and forth. This allowed for a deeper connection between them. With neither seeming to understand the depth of feeling the other had. This was a romance that was built over time, distance, remembrance, and reconnection. The time apart only allowed for the love to become stronger and deeper. I watched as Eleanor worked to make the man she knew she loved to see how she had grown while he was away. There were roadblocks. There were challenging characters along the way. But in the end it was a romance that was beautiful and sweet.

Blurb
Five years ago, Lord Sorin Latham fled England’s shores to avoid heartbreak and scandal in the form of one Lady Eleanor Cramley. On returning home, he finds the young miss he used to scold for lack of decorum is now a stunning woman who fires his blood. But he must resist temptation or risk losing his honor as a gentleman and the friendship of those he holds dear, including Eleanor.

Lady Eleanor is determined to be the paragon of propriety Sorin urged her to become. But now that he’s back, the man she once thought of as an older brother makes her long to be anything but proper. She must make Sorin see her as worthy of his heart and his desire without losing his good opinion, or her Season will end in disgrace.

Excerpt
“Eleanor, Charles has told me of your many rejected suitors. You have, to his utter bewilderment and despair, refused to consider any and every gentleman that has expressed interest in you, and I cannot help but feel that the fault is in some way at least partly mine. While it is true that I’d hoped to impart to you a sense of decorum, I never intended that you should withhold yourself so entirely as to become isolated.” In the silence that followed, Sorin braced himself.
But in spite of her reddening face, she spoke with chilling calm. “You confuse reserve with a lack of feeling. Reserve is the veil behind which we conceal those sentiments inappropriate to display, is that not what you said?”
“It was indeed,” he replied, now regretting the fact that he’d ever broached the subject.
“Then consider it fortunate that I maintained my reserve, because to have displayed my true feelings for those so-called suitors would have been insulting to their dignity and very likely ruinous for me.” Her eyes flashed, belying her cool tone. “I’ve given every gentleman before which Charles has paraded me an opportunity to prove himself worthy of my regard. It’s not my fault that all have failed to meet my standards. If I’ve been reserved, it is because I have yet to find a gentleman possessing the qualities necessary to engender my trust and affection.”
Prudence warred with curiosity—and promptly lost. “Might I inquire as to these…standards you’ve set forth? Because it seems to me you’ve set some lofty requirements, if indeed no less than four—six if you count the good reverend’s repeated attempts—proposals of marriage have been turned down due to lack of their fulfillment. Are you certain the fault lies with the gentlemen?”
In an instant, he knew he’d gone too far. Her eyes widened, and the flags in her cheeks brightened to a cherry red that spread to the tips of her ears.
“Perhaps I am too harsh a critic,” she said a bit unsteadily. “My only excuse is that my expectations have been set by the examples with which I was provided in my youth. My father, Charles, and…” A suspicious brightness rimmed her lower lashes for a bare instant before she averted her gaze.
Comprehension dawned. “If you mean to say that I am at fault for—”
“Who else was there?” she snapped, glaring at him through leaf-green eyes that glittered with unshed tears. “Had I been exposed to lesser men, I should perhaps be more willing to accept such a one. However, as I was not, I shall continue to hope for better. Had you been here to see what has presented itself thus far, I would like to think that you would agree with my decision.”
The words had been spoken softly, and yet they cut like the sharpest steel. He took a step toward her, intending only to offer comfort and reassurance, but she quickly edged away.

NetGalley REVIEW - Virtual Tour - Without Words by Delancey Stewart

Without Words
by Delancey Stewart
Releasing May 22nd 2017
Entangled Select
The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . WITHOUT WORDS . . . I had the blurb that got me in. Then I read a couple excerpts from the book. Then one excerpt had me saying that I must read this one. This man was in pain, feeling tortured, found the one, and his soul knew it deep down. The sorrow in his inner thoughts were just enough to keep me wanting to read more. I could feel his devastation in losing that first chance to say hello.

This one read had a solid foundation with emotions raw and pure. Good characters. Roberto was one character that spoke to me without many words. He inner thoughts were telling. He was a male that had life happen to him and had to learn to cope with it in a new and different way. Music and her.

Dani was the calm that he needed to set things almost back to right. She was the salve that he needed to make thing a bit more bearable. Dani and Roberto embark on a true friendship that becomes more with time. They calm each other but in different ways. He becomes her rock and her his sunshine.

This read was something different that I needed to mix things up a bit. You will not pick up a read like this every day. It got to my soul and stirred me in ways that makes me want more of the book and at the same time not. This couples romance was beautiful and emotional. There were the ups and downs. There were even times when you really wanted to have a stern talking to Dani. I usually want to smack the male but this time Dani earned all those rights herself. The dual POV makes things feel more intimate and personal while providing more insight to both characters a bit more.

Looking for a read that is different and not the normal everyday romance. This one has a few struggles and even obstacles but the romance is there.

Blurb
Sometimes love speaks for itself…

After an accident in the line of duty, firefighter Roberto DeRosa’s life is turned upside down. His career fighting fires is over, and he’s left with an uncertain future and an injury that makes communicating difficult for him. The only time words flow easily is when they’re lyrics and he has a guitar in his hands. Talking to women is definitely out, especially if they have bright blue eyes that seem to see right into his soul.

Dani Hodge is on the brink of realizing her dream of opening a small combination wine and book store in San Diego’s funky Ocean Beach neighborhood. But before she can open the doors, there’s work to be done, more work than she can do herself.

When the tattooed guy who completely ignored her at a bar walks by and offers her a hand wrangling a tile saw, Dani can’t afford to say no—and why would she say no to Mr. Strong and Silent when his stare conveys more than words could?

I caught Trent’s attention at the bar, putting my back to the girl and focusing on getting my heart to slow down, letting my blood cool.
And just when I’d gotten control of myself again, she was right fucking next to me, and my mind went blank.
Or most parts of my mind, at least. The parts in charge of caveman stuff—the parts that screamed at me to pick her up, throw her over my shoulder, and find a wall to fuck her against—those parts were working fine. Unfortunately.
“Hi,” she said.
Shit. Shit, shit, shit.
I stared at her. I was blank. I reached for a word to give her and my mind was empty. Even the one word she’d said would have been fine. I could have parroted it back to her. But it had fluttered up into the noise and light inside the bar and evaporated. Even that one simple word was out of my reach.
I watched her expression change. She’d said “hi” like she was extending a bridge, a thin filament I might just be able to risk stepping onto. But as she waited for me to return her greeting, to say fucking anything at all, the bridge dissolved.
And her face closed up. The sparkle in her bright eyes faded, and her energy pulled back inside her, leaving me cold again. A mixture of fear and surprise replaced the glow on her face, and I felt both guilty and monstrous as I watched what it did to her. She let other words fall between us. Nonsense, really. I’d made her uncomfortable, unhappy. And I already knew she was a girl I never wanted to see unhappy.
Finally, she turned around and went back to her table, pulled the other girl toward the door, and disappeared into the night beyond. And the strange light that had filled the club was extinguished.

by Melissa Schroeder
Releasing May 1st 2017

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . THE BOSS . . . Former lovers, former partners in law, former keeper, former everything. One is tired of the game. The other one just trying to survive the game. One needs a break, the other needs help. This action filled, drama intense, suspenseful twist, second chance at more than just lovers read gave me excitement. How many reads can you say have CIA, FBI, and the mob all in one read and all after the same person but for slightly different reasons? Or are they all after the same thing for the same reason? Read this one to give yourself a bit of a walk on the dangerous side of spies, mobsters, agents, partners, and lovers.

BlurbSick of the spy game, former CIA operative Vic Walker takes time off from his security firm to figure out just what he wants out of life. But peace and quiet isn’t in the cards with a former business partner and ex-lover like MacKenzie Donovan.

Mac doesn’t like asking for help from anyone, but this latest case has her in a little over her head. She crashes back into Vic’s life with the CIA, the Russian Mob, and the FBI, on her tail after a job goes south.

The moment he heard the creak of the front porch, Vic Walker knew someone was there to kill him. He had expected it, planned for it. In the fifteen years he’d worked in the business, he’d acquired quite a few enemies—old adversaries who wanted payback, and more than one former friend who might just want to kill him. What irritated Vic was that his attacker was so damned sloppy. Sloppy, and yet the bastard had gotten past his security measures. Knowing it had probably been a mistake and that there was something wrong with his first line of defense just pissed him off.
He waited, lying still on the couch and feigning sleep. Soft steps, only one set of footsteps. Didn’t mean the intruder didn’t have a partner, but at least only one had breached his security—for the moment. The footsteps sounded light, so Vic was pretty sure his intruder was smaller than average.
Easy pickings.
He held his breath as he waited. The front door opened. The bastard had slipped the dead bolt. A pro for sure, because without the squeak on the porch, Vic would still be asleep.
Soft, steady footsteps drew nearer as his assailant approached the couch. So close now, Vic could feel the heat and smell the night air on his attacker. The figure paused, and Vic sensed he was being studied. Adrenaline rushed through his blood as anticipation danced over his flesh. Patience had never been one of his best virtues in his personal life, but it was another matter on the job. In that one moment, Vic grabbed the attacker’s wrist, yanking hard so he landed on top of Vic. With one fluid move, he rolled off the couch and pinned his adversary to the floor. The moment he rolled over the intruder, he knew it wasn’t a man. The body was too slight and just a little bit too curvy.
“Bloody hell, Vic.”
He knew that smoky voice. It haunted his dreams and drove him to distraction during the day. English tainted the edges just enough to remind him of the time they had spent working in her birth country.
MacKenzie Donovan.
Former British spy, CIA informant, and his ex-partner— not to mention lover.
Ex-lover. He needed to remember the ex part.
Vic leaned up on his elbows and looked down at her. It was still dark in the room, but he had good night vision. Her hair was brown again and fanned out against the worn rug beneath her. Anger and amusement glittered in her green eyes. His heart ached just looking at her.
“What the hell are you doing here?”
“Nice to see you again, lover,” she said.

From an early age, USA Today Bestselling author Melissa Schroeder loved to read. First, it was the books her mother read to her including her two favorites, Winnie the Pooh and the Beatrix Potter books. After trying several different genres, she found romance in a Linda Howard book.

Since her first published book , Mel has had over 60 short stories, novellas, and novels published. She has written in genres ranging from historical to contemporary to futuristic and has worked with 8 publishers although she handles most of her publishing herself.
